DEVIL'S DEN v1.03

Items of note with this gameset:

-The replacement leaders for the at-start regimental commanders are NOT flip-defined with the original at start officer. Instead, each replacement leader was given his own counter which can be found in the force pool of the regiment in question. This is also true of brigade staffs in the case of a brigade commander casualty.

-For officer casualties that require pulling generic counters, do "Edit -> Pools" and select either "replacement CS officer pool" or "replacement US officer pool." Then click "random pick" and a counter will be pulled at random. In the extreme cases of a generic officer becoming a casualty, the "flip" counter is found under the "replacement officer 2" pools for each side. Again, these counters are not flip defined so it will be necessary to pull the correct leader from the pool (no random pick necessary).

-LOS characteristics have been defined, to include the 560 elevation for the CS artillery off map hexes. Please note that on the left side of the map a compass point has been drawn to indicate "north." This is in conflict with the compass points when defining a facing. In effect, when defining a facing the "south" direction listed on the graphic is actually west, "north" is east, etc.

-Scanned copies of the player aid cards are included. A .jpg file for front and back side can be converted into .bmp format and defined as an info page if desired. The original set had the scanned charts assigned as info pages but was removed due to the size (over 8 mB). The Off-map Artillery CRT is included as a defined info-page.

-Artillery ammo tracks are included on the map with counters to keep a running track of ammo levels. In addition, there are VP counters to keep running counts of VP's for casualties. These can be tracked on any convenient arty ammo track.

-Informational markers are sorted into force pools for convenience.

-Hits on individual units are tracked by editing piece values as opposed to placing actual counters. As casualties are taken, change the SP value for the piece. Note that the ineffective level is listed as a piece value and will prompt the player to flip the piece to the ineffective side when the required casualties are taken. Ineffective status is flipped defined with the effective counter.

The game set was developed with several graphical differences with the actual game map and counters and these should be rather obvious. In the case of the units, the Corps designation or state is overlayed on a graphic that represents the anatomy of a two company division. In Civil War terminology, the two company grouping (the base counter for Devil's Den) is referred to as a "division" (not to be confused with a "Grand Division" which refers to several brigades under a Divisional commander). The player will actually see the two rank line, with file closers (8 sergeants, 4 lieutenants, and two captains) behind the line. The leaders have a graphic of the rank badge they would have worn.
